Bakshi wins LG All India Open Amateur Golf

Chandigarh, Jan 20 (UNI) 17-year-old Rahul Bakshi of Chandigarh claimed his second All India amateur title in a span of 23 days as he defeated his senior counterpart Abhishek Jha 8 and 7 in the 107th LG All India Open Amateur Golf Championship at the 72-par Chandigarh Golf Club here today.

Earlier, he had claimed the Sunfeast All India Junior/Sub-Junior Championship last month.

''It is a great feeling to win the National Open title. It was a tough tournament as I had to face senior and experienced amateurs,'' said an elated Bakshi.

''I did not expect to win as Abhishek was a good match-play player and comes with more experience. But I was surprised by his lack of form,'' said the young champion who flew to Malaysia for the Asian Junior Championship.

''I think the last two holes in the third nine proved crucial where I won two holes to go 7-up,'' said Rahul Bakshi.

''My driving was awful and with cold weather, I was always falling short. There was nothing I could have done to avoid those mistakes as everything was going awry about my game,'' said the Bangalore lad.
