Australia to play Argentina in September friendly

SYDNEY, June 3 (Reuters) Australia and Argentina have rearranged their friendly international for September 11, Football Federation Australia (FFA) said today.

The match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was originally scheduled for June 6 but Argentina asked for it to be postponed due to problems in assembling a full-strength squad.

''We'd like to thank all the fans for their patience and understanding while we finalised a new date for the match,'' FFA chief executive Ben Buckley said in a statement.

''We have worked hard with the Argentinean Association, the Victorian Government and the MCG to set a date in stone which will enable Argentina to bring their best players to Australia.'' The Socceroos lost 2-1 to Uruguay at Sydney's Olympic Stadium in a friendly international yesterday.
