Australia pulls out of bidding for women's 2011 World Cup

ZURICH, Oct 13 (Reuters) Australia has pulled out of the bidding to host the 2011 women's World Cup, leaving Canada, Germany and Peru as the remaining contenders to stage the event.

World soccer's governing body FIFA said yesterday it had received a formal letter from the Australian football federation confirming the country's withdrawal.

FIFA gave no reason for the decision in its statement.

The final decision on the hosts will be made by FIFA's executive committee on Oct. 30 when the body is also expected to confirm that Brazil will stage the 2014 men's World Cup.
