Atwal breaks jinx, makes cut after five outings;Chopra withdraws

Cromwell, Connecticut, June 23 (UNI) After missing five consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour, Arjun Atwal finally broke the jinx as he advanced to the weekend action with a one-over 71 that saw him placed at tied 34th after a rain-affected Round Two of the Travelers Golf Championship here.

Atwal and former World No one Vijay Singh of Fiji do not seem to have enough of each other after being tied for the 29th spot at the end of opening day's play as both came up with identical cards to share the 34th spot.

Indian pro Atwal, who has not been in the best of form recently, did well to make the cut although he slipped four rungs after playing the back nine in gusty wind and rain at the TPC River Highlands Course.

The Orlando(Ga.)-based Indian dropped more shots than he gained, mixing four bogeys with three birdies, including back-to-back ones on the fifth and sixth, to lie seven strokes off the leaderboard toppers, Jay Williamson and David Toms of the US, followed by overnight leader Hunter Mahan (US).

Meanwhile, it turned out to be a disappointing outing for Daniel Chopra, tied at 41st after the first round, as the Indian-born Swede withdrew from the tourney.
