Athletics-Wariner stumbles out, amputee Pistorius disqualified
SHEFFIELD, England, July 16 (Reuters) Olympic and world champion Jeremy Wariner stumbled out of the IAAF Grand Prix meeting when he failed to race in the men's 400 metres, losing his footing as he came out of the blocks.
Fellow American Angelo Taylor took advantage of Wariner's misfortune, winning in 45.25 seconds, 0.39 seconds ahead of Australia's John Steffensen.
South African amputee Oscar Pistorius was disqualified yesterday for running outside of his lane after trailing in last.
Much of the attention ahead of the race was focused on Pistorius, who runs with the aid of carbon fibre blades on both legs below the knees.
The IAAF last month gave Pistorius permission to race against able-bodied athletes and he is hoping to compete in next year's Olympic Games in Beijing.
