Assia won Ist position in inter college ski championship in Gulmarg

Gulmarg, Mar 5 (UNI) Assia Bhat of Pulwama Degress college begged the first and Nusrat Nabi of Sopore Degree college second position in the annual inter-college Ski Championship for women, conducted for the first time on the ski slopes here.

The championship, organised by Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, Kashmir university, concluded here last evening.

Thirty female skiers of various colleges and postgraduate departments of the valley took part in the thrilling and scintillating winter sport events.

Bhat begged first position, Nusrat Nabi of Sopore Degree college got second position while Saba Farooq and Nazia Majeed of Womens college Naka-Kadal got third position.

Farooq Ahmad Lone, chief executive officer of Gulmarg Development Authority was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed medals amongst the winners.

He assured the students that two new hostels will be constructed in Gulmarg providing dormitory typed accommodation to local youths on cheaper rates.

Earlier, the Directorate orgainsed 14 day-long basic, intermediate and advance Ski courses for female students, this was the second camp in a row this winter.

Training was imparted by University adventure Sports coach, Mohammad Yousuf, who was assisted by two guest instructors of district winter games association Srinagar, Shahid Hussain and Javed Beig.

In basic course technique, Qurat-ul-Ain, Shazia Anjum of women college Mulana Azad Road Srinagar, Humaira Ashraf Mir of Postgraduate Department Commerce begged first, second and thrid positions respectively.

In basic slalom, Nazia Majeed of Women College Nawakadal, Razia Farooq of Sopore College and Sheerza Akhter of Pulwama college won first , second and third postiions respectively.

In intermediate course, Nusrat Nabi of Sopore College, Urfeena Ahad Women college Maulana Azad Raod Srinagar begged first and second positions respectively while Asia Bhat of Pulwama college and Suheem Altaf of Postgraduate Department of Law were declared joint winners of third postion.

In advance course, Sakeena Bashir of Sopore college and ulfat Kamari of Al-Huda colege of Education achieved first and second positions respectively.
