Asom wins Championship

Vijayawada, Jan 27 (UNI) Asoam today won the 27th Cherukuri Volga Memorial Senior National Archery Championship defeating Manipur in the men's category at Dr NTR University of Health Sciences here.

Bishnu Ravi Nath, Rupesh Roy and Pankaj Das of Assam created a new record, scoring 1,910 points out of 2,160, beating the previous record of 1,851 points held by Andhra Pradesh.

Manipur's T H Sanatamba Singh, N Chittaran and A Suraj Singh secured second place scoring 1,909 points and SSCB's S Kore, S Robert and Ajay Dharmal came third with 1,865 points.

In the overall championship, T H Sanatamba Singh of Manipur secured the first place, scoring 657 points out of 720, beating the previous record of 634 points achieved by a Durgaiah of Andhra Pradesh.

Bishnu Ravi Nath finished second with 649 points, while Tilit Aboh of SSCB got the third place with 647 points.

In the 50-metre event, T H Sanatamba Singh of Manipur bagged the gold and created a new record by scoring 326 points out of 360. She surpassed the previous best of 310 points scored by Gangmei Robert of SSCB.

S Robert and Tilit Aboh of SSCB won the silver and bronze scoring 320 and 319 points respectively.

In the 30-M event, Orkey Basumatray and Bishnu Ravinath of Asom won the gold and silver scoring 336 and 334 points out of 360 respectively.

T H Sanatamba Singh of Manipur settled with bronze scoring 331 points.
