Asom to buy 25 MW power for National Games

Guwahati, Jan 27 (UNI) As much as 25 MW of additional power would be bought by host Asom for the National Games next month to cater to the extra demand without affecting regular power supply in the state.

This was stated by state Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi, also the chairman of the media and publicity cell of the Games, at a press conference here today.

He said, '' The power generation scene has not undergone a change in the past few months. So, we will be buying 25 MW of additional power for the Games. '' '' The event management group for the Games had sought additional three MW power for the inauguration ceremony, over the earlier estimation. It has also been taken care of, '' he added.

The Power Minister stated categorically that regular power supply in the state would not be curtailed to meet the power demand.

He said, '' There should be no fears that the people of the state will be pushed to darkness to light up the Games. '' Mr Bordoloi informed that a core group has been formed for management of power supply during the Games, with the managing director of the Upper Assam Electricity Distribution Company heading the group.
