Army XI defeats Indian Bank; qualifies for final phase

Kochi, Mar 18 (UNI) Army XI outclassed Indian Bank 4-0 in the ONGC 2nd Division National Football League here today.

The win enabled Army XI to qualify with eight points for the final phase in Kozhikode.

Army XI stamped their authority through calculated moves from both flanks and capitalised on Indian Bank's poor defence.

Striker Jeremy Lal scored the first goal in the 15th minute and mid-fielder Shaji D Silva netted the second goal in the 45th minute to give Army XI a two-goal lead at half-time.

Jeremy Lal had a good outing as he troubled the scorers with the third goal in the 65 minute.

Indian Bank couldn't prevent the determined attack of the opposition and eventually conceded the fourth goal in the 73th minute as substitute Vijay Thapa scored the last goal of the match.

Salgaocar Club will meet Viva Kerala tomorrow, played for academic interest, as both the teams had qualified for the final round.
