Army to hold car rally for World Military Games
Vijayawada, June 27 (UNI) A car rally is being organised by the 54th Infantry Division in Andhra Pradesh to give wide publicity to the Military World Games, a senior Army officer said today.
Disclosing this to the press here, Lt Col Mukesh Hooda said the 'Chalo Hyderabad Car Rally' will be flagged off by Defence Minister A K Antony at 1145 hrs on July 8 at Hyderabad.
The rally would seek to spread awareness on the huge sporting event, friendship through sports, respect for soldiers besides educating the people on the Army's role in nation building.
Army men in 60 cars would cover Kurnool, Cuddapah, Nellore, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Khammam before returning to Hyderabad on July 22.
Meanwhile, six to seven cars from Thiruvananthapuram would join the rally at Maidakuru before reaching Cuddapah. Another mini-rally from the Suryalanka Air Force would link the two rallyists at Baptla.
At Vijayawada, a 20-over cricket match would be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium between rally participants and civilian VIPs and administration officers on the morning of July 15.
An ex-servicemen rally would be held later. In the evening, cultural programmes by NCC cadets and Kuchipudi dance would be organised.
A Naval base team from Visakhapatnam would link up the main rally at Rajahmundry before proceeding to Kakinada.
