Army red lead the show

Hyderabad, Apr 19 (UNI) Army Red were in the lead while Army Green was placed second, Navy third and Indian Air Force in the fourth position on the penultimate day in the 57th Services Athletics Championship 2007 here today.

Sarish Pal of Army Red won the 400 M Gold timing 46.77 seconds while SK Mortoja of Army Green (47.54 sec) and Siju SR of Army Red (48.14 sec) took the silver and bronze, respectively.

Talking to ''UNI'' Sarish said, 'with a dissappointed show at Guwahati national Games, I was determined to excel in this meet.

Now my aim is to win a medal in the Federation Cup and also put up a better performance in ATF and fourth Millitary World Games.

The event also witnessed two meet records in triple jump and 5000 M run. Bibu Mathew of Navy rewrote the meet record of 15.61 M with 16.35 M. The Second placed Alex Thomas of Army Red also bettered the meet record with 16.15 M. Surender Singh of Army Red bettered the meet record of 14:10.10 sec with a Gold medal winning performance of 14:06.32 seconds.
