Arjuna awardee Peter Thangaraj dies of heart attack

Hyderabad, Nov 25 (UNI) Arjuna awardee and eminent footballer Peter Thangaraj, who represented Andhra Pradesh in national events and India in international events, including Olympics and Asian Games, died due to massive heart attack at Bokaro, yesterday.

He was 73. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.

He was known for his stunning performance in the Asian Games in 1958. He was honoured with the prestigious Arjuna award in 1967 for his outstanding contribution to football in the country.

The All India Football Association also honoured him with ''Player of the Decade''award in the 1960s.

He had coached Bolarum Sporting, Vasco Goa, East Bengal, Bokaro steel plant, Goa and Bihar football teams.

The Andhra Preadesh Veterans Football Association conducted a condolence meeting to pay respects to Thangaraj here.
