Anju gets last chance to qualify for World Athletics Championship
New Delhi, July 9 (UNI) Ace Indian jumper Anju Bobby George will get her last chance to qualify for next month's World Athletics Championship in Osaka, Japan, in the 17th Asian Athletics Championship to be held in the Jordanian capital of Amman from July 25 to 29.
She needs to clear 6.60m mark, much below her personal best of 6.83m, to qualify for the August 25-September 2 IAAF World Championship.
The qualification mark had alluded Anju in previous occasions including the two Indian legs of Asian Grand Prix in Guwahati and Pune last month.
Meanwhile, Jordanian capital Amman is all set to host the continent's biggest track and field event which will see in action more than 700 top athletes from 45 Asian countries.
The meet was earlier scheduled to be held in Lebanese capital of Beirut but the security situation there led to its deferrment and Jordan had stepped in to host it.
''We are satisfied over the preparation of the championship.
Jordan Athletics Federation has made the adequate arrangements for the athletes and officials.
We are confident that Jordan will host the championship successfully in spite of the short time they have for preparation,'' said Maurice Nicolas, Secretary Asian Athletics Association (AAA) in a statement.
Nicolas recently made a visit to Amman to assess the preparation, along with Athletics Federation of India Secretary and AAA Competition Director Lalit K Bhanot and other AAA officials.
