Anju George, Navpreet among 17 Indian athletes to represent Asia
New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) Olympian jumper Anju George, and shot putter Navpreet Singh are among the 17 Indian athletes to represent Asia in the second Afro-Asian Games to be held from July 28 to August 6 at Algiers(Algeria).
The selection of 17 athletes (seven men and 10 women) was announced by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
According to informantion received here, Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has set Doha Asian Games 2006 as the basis for selection of Team from the continent.
OCA has selected first four in a given discipline based on the final results of the Doha Games.
The selected athletes are: Men: Navpreet Singh (Shot Put), Renjith Maheswary (Triple Jump), Hari Shankar Roy (High Jump), Aboo Backer (4x400), Joseph Abraham (4x400), Bhupinder Singh (4x400) and K M Binu (4x400) Women: Sinimol Paulose (1500m), Manjeet Kaur (400m, 4x400), Pinki Pramanik (400m, 4x400), O P Jaisha (5000m), Krishna Punia (Discus), Anju George (Long Jump), Soma Biswas ( Heptathlon), J J Shobha (Heptathlon), Satti Geetha (4x400) and Chitra Soman (4x400m).
