Anand win again to stay alive in Corus Chess
Wijk Aan Zee, Jan 24 (UNI) Defending champion Viswanathan Anand came back from a seemingly hopeless situation against Sergey Karjakin of Ukraine like only he could and won his second game on the trot and stay in hunt after Round 10 at the Corus Chess Tournament here today.
The disadvantage of playing with black pieces was hardly a deterrent and the Indian Super Grandmaster marshalled his troops well in the end game to earn a full point from a situation when even a draw seemed unlikely.
After 63 moves, Karjakin surrendered thus giving Anand a push further up the table. Anand now has six points from 10 matches and is tied third spot on the leaderboard. Bulgarian Veselin Topalov handed a drubbing to Norwegian Magnus Carlsen to cement his lead at the top with 7.5 points.
Teymour Radjabov drew with Peter Svidler to maintain his second place with 6.5 points.
World Champion Vladimir Kramnik spit points with his Russian fellow Alexander Motylev of Russia to join Anand at third spot.
Anand Takes on Spaniard Alexey Shirov on Friday.
