Anand bows to Topalov
Wijk Aan Zee, Jan 21 (UNI) Viswanathan Anand's bid for a sixth title here received a severe jolt after the Indian Grandmaster lost to former world champion Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria in the eighth round of the Corus Chess championship here today.
This was Anand's second loss in three days and left him struggling at just four points while the Bulgarian, with five points, moved into second spot behind Teymour Radjabov of Azerbaijan.
Playing with black pieces, Anand erred at critical junctures while Topalov kept on tightening the noose making the Indian resign after 35 moves.
