American teenager Fujikawa makes cut history at Waialae
HONOLULU, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Hawaiian teenager Tadd Fujikawa eagled the last to become the second youngest player to make the cut in a PGA Tour event at the Sony Open.
The 16-year-old amateur from Honolulu followed his opening one-over-par 71 with a four-birdie 66 at a breezy Waialae Country Club yesterday.
Fujikawa, who qualified for last year's US Open at Winged Foot, holed a 15-footer at the par-five 18th to finish at three-under 137, three strokes inside the cutline.
He lifted his arms skywards in celebration before pumping his first as the gallery crammed around the green erupted in applause.
Aged 16 years and four days, the Moanalua High School student is the youngest player to qualify for the weekend at a PGA Tour event in 50 years.
Bob Panasik holds the record after surviving the cut at the 1957 Canadian Open aged 15 years, eight months and 20 days.
The Sony Open cut fell at level-par 140 with 73 players advancing into the third round.
