Amateur Meghna assumes lead at DLF Women's Indian Open
New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) India's 18-year-old amateur Meghna Bal upstaged a strong professional field to lead with a score of 4-under 68 in the opening round of the inaugural 100,000 doller DLF Women's Indian Open at the DLF Golf and Country Club here today.
Top ranked golfer on the DLF Women's Professional Golf Tour Irina Brar was tied for second place.
Meghna, the youngest player in the field, gave a fine display to take a two-shot cushion from Brar, Thailand's Russamee Gulyanamitta and Chinese Taipei's Tseng Ya Ni.
The trio shot identical 2-under 70 to occupy joint second spot.
Meghna's card was only botched by a bogey on the fifth, where after her second shot missed the green on the right, she chipped on and missed a ten footer. She started off confidently by picking up a stroke on the first hole.
She then added three consecutive birdies beginning on the eighth hole and then made another on the 12th.
Korea's best-placed players were Lee Bo-ri and Lee Eun-kyoung.
The duo shot identical 71 to share the fifth position.
