Amandeep saves best for last, signs off tied 11th at Malaysian Open
Kuala Lumpur, Feb 11 (UNI) Amandeep Johl's tournament best two-under 70 saw him finish a creditable tied 11th while Jeev Milkha Singh's poor form continued as he returned a two-over 72 to finish tied 42nd in the 1.29 million dollar Malaysian Open.
Amandeep was the pick of the Indians today with a total of three-under 285, while SSP Chowrasia also improved marginally to finish tied 16th with two-under 286.
However, it was another day of disappointment for Jeev, whose campaign ended with a two-over 290. The seasoned pro could have had a more disastrous day had it not been for some damage control towards the end.
Jeev did not manage a single birdie in his front nine but dropped two shots on the sixth and ninth holes to be two-over at halfway mark.
Another bogey on the 11th and the Indian seemed well on course for another poor day but all of a sudden Jeev found form to gain shots on the 13th, 16th and 17th to prevent any further slide.
In contrast, Amandeep got off to a brilliant start gaining shots on second, fourth and sixth but a bogey on the ninth hole saw him making turn at two-under. A birdie on the 11th brought him in contention for a top-10 finish but a dropped shot on the 16th meant that finished just outside the bracket.
Chowrasia's roller-coaster 71 was studded with five birdies against four bogeys.
Meanwhile, Gaurav Ghei ended way down at tied 53rd after a nightmarish three-over 75, which took his total to five-over 293.
Swede Peter Hedblom prevailed in the heat of battle at Saujana Golf and Country Club, shooting a final round of four-under 68 for an eight-under 280 total to edge out Frenchman Jean-Francois Lucquin, who signed off with the day's best of 67, by one shot.
