All India Volleyball Tournament in Chennai from tommorow

Chennai, Jun 4 (UNI) Eight teams each in the men's and women's section will vie for top honours in the Rs 1.5 lakh prize money St Joseph's P John Memorial All India Volleyball Tournament here from tomorrow.

Organising Committee President W I Davaram and Chairman Babu Manoharan told mediapersons here last night that the tournament would be conducted by the Nellai Friends and Dr Sivanthi Club.

They said Cochin Port Trust, KSEB (Thiruvananthapuram), IOB, Indian bank, Southern Railway, SDAT, ICF and Nellai Friends were the teams in the fray in the men's section.

Western Railway, Central Railway, KSEB (Thiruvananthapuram), Southern Railway, Dr Sivanthi Club, St Joseph's College, Tamil Nadu Police and G K M Club were the teams in the fray in the women's section, they said.

The teams would be divided into two groups and after the league phase, the top two teams from each group would qualify for the semifinals. The final would be held on June ten.

The men's winner would be richer by Rs 30,000 and the runner up Rs 25,000. In the women's category, the winner and runner up would get Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

Apart from the prize money, awards for best attacker, best defender and best libero would also be given in both the sections.
