Ali Gerba double helps Canada reach Gold Cup semi-finals

BOSTON, June 16 (Reuters) Canada reached the semi-finals of the Gold Cup with a 3-0 victory over Guatemala today with Ali Gerba scoring twice.

Gerba latched on to a through ball to score in the 16th minute.

He doubled the advantage with a confident side-footed finish from a Julian de Guzman pass after a superb flowing move from the Canadians in the 32nd minute.

The third goal came two minutes before the break when a De Guzman shot was deflected off Guatemala defender Henry Medina.

In the semi-finals of the CONCACAF tournament, which brings together North and Central American and Caribbean nations, Canada will play the winners of the US v Panama game which was being held later today.

In tomorrow's two quarter-finals, Mexico face Costa Rica and Honduras play Guadeloupe.
