Akram appointed national selector of Bangladesh
Dhaka, May 7 (UNI) Former Bangladesh skipper Mohammed Akram begins a new innings after being appointed as one of the national selectors replacing Golam Nowsher Prince, who resigned from the committee sighting personal problems.
According to the BCB sources, Prince, a former pacemen resigned from the committee as he is due to immigrate.
Akram will join the National Selection Committee, headed by Faruque Ahmed, from June one.
It has also been learnt that the second term of a two-year contract of the selection committee comes to an end on July one and it is unlikely that Faruque and former opener Athar Ali Khan will continue with their job for yet another term.
Meanwhile, Akram seemed very happy at being conferred with the honour, saying, ''It is a great feeling. I have served Bangladesh cricket for long and now my relatives are there in the Bangladesh team. The team has reached a new high and it will be my duty to take the team forward.'' Tamim Iqbal, the talented left handed opener who climbed to fame during the Caribbean World Cup by toring the Indian attack to smithereens in Trinidad, is a relative of Akram.
''I have played with both the committee members so it is not a big deal working with them. I am really looking forward to taking up the challenge because there is a lot of scope to work on this field,'' he added.
