Air Force Table Tennis Championship inaugurated
Chandigarh, Sep 6 (UNI) The Inter Command Air Force Table Tennis Championship 2007-08 was inaugurated here today by Air Commodore Manmohan Sood, AOC, 12 Wing Air Force.
Eight teams including seven IAF commands and Air Headquarters would be participating in the championship that ends on September 9.
A total of 41 participants are taking part in this tournament.
The opening exhibition match was held between Sergent Jayant Mukherjee, who represented Air Force in the national championship held in March 2007 and LAC M S Digari, who has also been representing the Air Force in the national championships. Mukherjee won the exhibition match in straight sets.
The teams have been divided into two groups with the Western Air Command (WAC), South Western Air Command (SWAC), Central Air Command (CAC) and South Western Command (SAC) forming Group A and Maintenance Command (MC), Eastern Air Command (EAC), Training Command (TC) and Air Headquarters (AHQ) forming Group B.
The championship would be played in three different heads comprising team championship, open singles and open doubles. Each team will comprise of a minimum of three players. Team championships will be played on New Swaything Cup system. The team Championship will be conducted on league-cum-knock out basis.
