AFI likely to send athletes abroad to train for Olympics

Patiala, Apr 6 (UNI) The Athletic Federation of India (AFI) is planning to send promising national athletes to Poland, Germany and other European countries to train for the Olympic Games in Beijing next year.

The athletes are likely to go on the European tour after next month to train in 100m (men and women), 400x4 Relay (men and women), Discus Throw, Shot Put, Long Jump and Heptathlon, AFI sources said here.

A good number of Indiam athletes are currently training in South Africa under the supervision of Indian and foreign coaches, the sources said.

At present there are two foreign coaches for sprints, one for shot put, two recovery experts and a masseuse, all from Ukraine or Belarus.
