Adwait Sadwilkar stretched before making boys U-14 semis

Mumbai, May 23 (UNI) Fourth seed Adwait Sadwilkar was stretched by unseeded Yash Deshpande before advancing to the boys under-14 semi-finals in the Vazirani All India Ranking Championship Series 2007 tennis tournament at the Vazirani National Sports Academy, Nerul near here today.

Sadwilkar came through a 2 hour, 15 minute battle for a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win. He dominated the opening set, while Deshpande took charge in the second set, hitting every ball that came his way.

But Sadwilkar changed tactics in the decider and moved Deshpande to either side of the court with angled shots to clinch the issue.

Top seed Vishal Passi ended the winning streak of qualifier Ryan Serrao following a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win in another boys under-14 quarter-final.

Bharati Bylapudi and Ruchita Ugalmugle rallied to a thrilling 4-0, 4-5 (5-7), 10-7 girls under-14 semi-final win over Majid Rifat and Gauri Dhumal that stretched into a pulsating Super Tiebreaker where the winners trailed 2-6 at one stage.

Sneha Devi Reddy remained on course as she entered the girls' under-14 and under-12 semi-finals.
