Adivasi girl Meena Ware wins girls under 14 cross country race

Pune Jan 12 (UNI) Meena Ware, an Adivasi girl from Kolwadi village of Junner taluka today won the two kilometers girls under 14 race in the Pune district junior cross country championship held under the aegis of Pune International Marathon Trust (PIMT) at the Shiv Chhatarapati Sports City Mahalunge-Balewadi here.

Meena running with steady pace overcame a strong field to win the race clocking ten minutes 6.3 seconds. Ashiwariya Bhujbal from Gram Unatti was placed second with a time of ten minutes 13.9 seconds and Sonali Zare of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was third producing a time of ten minutes 24.2 seconds.

The meet assumes importance as it would serve as the basis to select the Pune District squad to take part in the junior State Cross Country Championship to be held at Satara.

Earlier, Shiv Chhtarapati awardee Manisha Ghate (Kondhalkar) formally inaugurated the meet. Veteran international athlete Gurbans Kaur presided over the function.

Divisional Registrar State Credit Society Dr Kedari Jadhav gave away the prizes at the final prize distribution function which was presided over by Dhyanchand awardee Smita Yadav (Shirole).

Arjuna awardee grappler Kaka Pawar was the chief guest.
