AAI introduces sports promotional schemes for the youth
New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) In a bid to promote sports in the country, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has allocated Rs 71.60 lakh in the current financial year as part of its various promotion schemes for the youth of India.
The various schemes include recruitment of sports persons in various games, scholarship schemes for outstanding young sports persons, individual sponsorship for outstanding sports persons and sponsorship of national and internatioinal tournaments conducted in India.
The scheme is being introduced to facilitate individuals aspiring to participate in national as well as international tournaments, Dr K Ramalingam, Chairman, AAI and President, All India Public Sector Sports Promotion Board said.
Elaborating the scheme, Dr Ramalingam said 60 scholarships will be awarded to young sports persons of the age group of 14-18 years and 18-22 years in football, cricket, volleyball, badminton and table-tennis and added that Rs 21.60 lakh has been allocated for this purpose.
Also financial assistance of around Rs 5 lakh will be offered for training and participation in tournaments, he said.
