7 mn dollar prize money world championship from August 25

Osaka, May 16 (UNI) The IAAF today announced that any athlete erasing an existing world record at the World Championships in Athletics will be awarded 100,000 dollars.

The seven-million-dollar prize money IAAF World Athletics Championship, will be held here from August 24 to September 2.

A record number of 204 of the 212 IAAF Member Federations will take part in the championship which is the third biggest global sporting event after the Olympic and FIFA World Cup, and is to be the largest sports gathering ever this year.

The International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) also announced the awards for Individual and tream events.

The 7,194,000 dollars will be distributed as follows: (Men's and Women's events; 1st to 8th places; all figures are in dollars): Individual: 1st 60,000; 2nd 30,000; 3rd 20,000; 4th 15,000; 5th 10,000; 6th 6,000; 7th 5,000; 8th 4,000 Relays (per team): 1st 80,000; 2nd 40,000; 3rd 20,000; 4th 16,000; 5th 12,000; 6th 8,000; 7th 6,000; 8th 4,000 The IAAF World Marathon Cup which is incorporated into the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, offers an additional total prize purse of 142,000 dollars.

Men's and Women's events; 1st to 6th places; all figures are in dollars): Teams: 1st 20,000; 2nd 15,000; 3rd 12,000; 4th 10,000; 5th 8,000; 6th 6,000. 100,000 dollars World Record bonus.
