5,000 take part in a rally in support of AR ground

Agartala, Feb 02 (UNI) A rally was organised by the Tripura Sports Council (TSC) here today, demanding handing over of the Assam Rifles (AR) ground to the state government.

TSC has sent a memorandum to the Union Home Ministry through the Central Paramilitary Force authorities in this regard.

A TSC spokesperson told UNI that about 5,000 sports lovers from all walks of life participated in the rally demanding that the AR ground be handed over to the state government for the benefit of sports in the state.

Besides sports lovers, members of various organisations, sports clubs and political leaders took part in the rally that began from Umakanta Academy School ground here.

Cricket coach Karsan Ghavri, Pabitra Kar, former minister and the president of the Tripura Football Association also participated in the rally and spoke about the necessity of the AR ground.

After 1971, the Assam Rifles have been controlling the ground and since then no kind of sports activities taking place there.

Tripura government has also written several letters to the Union Home Ministry for handing over the ground to the state government from the Assam Rifles.
