5 boys, 2 girls to participate in IODA Asian Optimist Tourney 2007

Chennai, July 3 (UNI) Seven optimist dinghy sailors, five boys and two girls, all in the under-15 age group, will participate in the IODA Asian Optimist Championship 2007, to be held in Singapore from July seven to 15.

The sailors had qualified at the recently concluded Chennai Port Trust National Optimist Coastal Sailing Championship. Eleven Asian countries would be seen in action at the Singapore event.

It was notable that five of the seven sailors were from Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA), the other two being from Mumbai.

The Singapore-bound team underwent rigorous training at a special two week coaching camp conducted by the Yachting Association of India under the tutelage of national coach Ninad Mayekar, a TNSA release said here today.

Following is the team: Boys: Gaurav Pikale (CSC), Nishanth Chandrashekar (TNSA), Hussain Bhavnagarwala (TNSA), Arisudan Sheth(CSC), Gerad Ambrose (TNSA).

Girls: Shwetha Sadanand (TNSA), Niveditha Varman (TNSA).
