3043 medals up for grabs in National Games

Guwahati, Feb 8 (UNI) Altogether 3043 medals are up for grabs in the 33rd National Games, beginning tomorrow.

Announcing this, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi today told newsmen that altogether 6999 athletes were taking part.

''About 11000 people are taking part in the games,'' Of total 3043 medals, 938 are gold, 958 silver and 1127 are bronze medals. He also informed that of the 33 teams participating in the games, 29 are states, three union territories and other is the Services Sports Control Board (SPCB).

Asom has the largest number of team with 908 member while Andaman has the smallest delegetaion with just 15 athletes.

The Games will also see four maiden events like Rugby, Lawn Ball, Wushu and Karatedo.
