Beenamol qualifies for 400m semi-finals

Sydney: India's K M Beenamol qualified for the semi-finals the women's 400 metres at the Stadium Australia with the fourth spot in heat three of the second round here on Saturday.

Beenamol, who had the best timing in the round one of the heats, ahead offavourite Australia's Cathy Freeman on Friday, clocked 51.81 secondsand came fourth on Saturday. Jamaica's Lorraine Grahme came first with atiming of 50.66 seconds.

Beenamol had clocked 51.51 seconds in round one of the heats, a shadebetter than Saturday's timing. Her best, however, is 51.21 seconds.
