21st Mah state police sports to commence from Feb 21

Thane, Feb 19 (UNI) The 21st Maharashtra State police sports meet will be held between February 21 and 27 at four locations in the city.

Thane Police Commissioner D Shivanandan told reporters that more than 2,300 police personnel including 57 officers would participate in the meet, to be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil on February 24.

Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will be the Chief guest at the concluding function.

He said that athletes from 34 district police and nine police Commissionerates of the State will participate in the events which will include Basketball, Hockey, Volley Ball, Kabaddi, Football, Handball, Wrestling, Judo, Boxing, Weightlifting, swimming, athletics, shooting etc.

A special stadium has been constructed for the purpose, he said adding that simultaneous events will be held at Police Parade Ground, J K School Grounds, Mukund Company, MIDC Grounds at Vitava and the Arya Kreeda Mandal grounds.

State DGP P S Pasricha will also be present for the inaugural function and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar will light the sports lamp.

Making use of the opportunity, a conference of the police chiefs of the Commissionerates and districts in the State would be held here during this period which will be chaired by the DGP.

The event has been named as Police Utsav and will also include cultural programmes and programmes of entertainment.

Giving details of the participation, he said that of the total participants 14 each will be Gazetted Officers and PIS, 29 PSIs and 1,855 male players and 257 female players.

The results of the games will be posted on the Police website for immediate communication throughout the State, he added.

UNI
