2010 CWG budget pegged at 3900 crore

New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) Hosting of 2010 Commonwealth Games would cost Delhi around Rs 3,900 crores, CWG Orgainising Committee chariman Suresh Kalmadi today said while promising to redeem a good part of it through sponsorship deals, marketing and television rights.

Addressing a media briefing here today after the three-day long second meeting of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Coordination Commission, Mr Kalmadi said, ''The Games budget has now been finalised. The total budget for the 2010 Games is Rs 3,900.

He informed that the Central Government has already sanctioned Rs 767 crores for the holding of the Games with the flexibility of sanction escalation of 15 per cent.

Apart from that, another Rs 1000 crore have been earmarked for infrastructure development and Rs 770 crore to Delhi Government for improvement of civic amenities of the capital, besides Rs 264 crore have been approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs for the security arrangement of the Games.

''The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has been sanctioned Rs 475 crore by the Centre for the construction of the Games Village.

Another Rs 400 crore will come from public-private partnership,'' said Mr Kalmadi.
