‘Cauldron will use 14,500 giga joules of gas’
Sydney: During the 17 days of the Olympics, the cauldron will use as much natural gas as 600 households need in a year, according to the company supplying the gas.
Company's managing director Paul Broad said the Olympic cauldron uses state of the art burner technology developed in the country to produce a highly luminous flame.
''A fine-tuned air to gas ratio is required for the Olympic cauldron to achieve a luminous type of flame rather than the blue flame normally associated with gas,'' he said.
''The technology produces a highly luminous flame with high fuel efficiency and low greenhouse emission,'' he said adding that the cauldron requires the same amount of gas in one day, which 35 houses use in a year.
The cauldron consumes more gas in an hour than the annual average household consumption, he said. Broad said over the 17 days of the Games, we will provide 14,500 giga joules of gas for the cauldron to keep it burning.''
