18,000 Mumbaikars participate in the 'Dream Run'
Mumbai, Jan 21 (UNI) The intensity and passion of the metropolis was on full display today as more than 18,000 Mumbaikars, including a ninety-four year old man and a ninety-six year old woman, participated in the fourth Standard Chartered Marathon's 'Dream Run' here.
In fact, there were more than 2,000 senior citizen participants and the oldest was a 96-year-old woman.
While the state chief secretary D K Sankaran flagged-off the event by fluttering a red flag, people from all stratas of society, rich and poor, actors, professionals and businessmen, were seen running on the streets of Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Bollywood actors Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff and Mandira Bedi were seen cheering the runners.
The Marathon was classified into various events including the main Marathon of 42 kms, half Marathon of 21 kms, 'Dream Run' of 7 kms, Senior Citizens Run and Wheelchair event.
Even though it was a Sunday, it looked as if the city was wide awake in the wee hours and people were all out either to participate or watch the event.
