Anwar finishes poor 29th in trap shooting
Sydney: Despite hitting the bull's eye 45 times out of 50, national shooting champion Anwar Sultan on Sunday finished 29th and bowed out of the trap shooting Olympic competition held in the Cecil Park Shooting Range.
Hosts Australia's Michael Diamond won the gold scoring 147 out of 150 followed by Britain's Ian Peel for silver with 142 and Italian Giovanni for bronze with 140.
Trap shooter Anwar's agony came to an early end as he scored 108 out of 125 in the event including 63 out of 75 on Saturday. Thirty eight-year-old Anwar, the first Indian to qualify directly for the mega event, shot 23 and 22 in his two rounds of 25 each in the morning.
Diamond had 122 out of 125 in the qualifying rounds, followed by Ian Peel (118), and Giovanni (116). Anwar, a silver medalist in the Asian Shooting Championship at Langkawi in Malaysia with a score of 143/150, had earned a direct entry to the Olympics.
