16 Corporate hosues battle for 2000 street children

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) In a noble cause to support the 2000 street children of the capital, 16 corporate houses, albeit their limited cricketing skills, slogged it out for almost two months to end with a win for Indian Air Force over IBM Daksh in the final of the SMILE-XANSA 20-20 Corporate Cricket Tournament here today.

Former test opener Akash Chopra, who was the Chief Guest for the grand finale, put in a word of praise for the organisers for helping the underprivileged children and said he would support the cause in the future.

The event will be played at the national level from next year onward for the benefit of underprivileged children across India.

The proceeds from the tournament are dedicated towards education and health care projects in the welfare of street children.

Batting first, IAF scored 165 runs in 20 overs and won by a wafer-thin one run margin as IBM Daksh almost achieved the target, scoring 164 runs in the alloted overs.

The tournament was set off in December 2006 with the objective of helping out 2000 street children in Delhi through Education and Healthcare support.

Among the corporate organisations that participated include Xansa, Ericssion, Citi Financial, Deutsche Bank, Reebok, Canon, Bank of America, Airtel, Indian Air Force and IBM Daksh.
