15 arrested for betting on World Cup

Bangalore, Apr 30 (UNI) The city police rounded up 15 persons, including some bookies, who indulged in betting on World Cup cricket matches in the city and seized Rs 13 lakh in cash and other articles.

Police said nine persons were arrested from Siddapura area in Jayanagar for making bets, while two others were held under Upparpet police limits. Four others were arrested during the last two days.

In all, 42 persons were arrested in the state since Saturday night following the crackdown on gambling on the World Cup final played between Australia and Sri Lanka. A Cash of Rs 3.24 lakh was confiscated. While 40 were arrested in Bellary, two others had been apprehended in the Bangalore.
