Chinese sailors miss flight, will miss Games

Sydney: Two members of China's sailing team have been withdrawn from the Olympics after missing their flights to Sydney, according to regatta officials.

Xu Chunjuan, 23, finished 49th in the women's Europe class world championships last year. The single-sail Europes are the smallest boats in Olympic competition.

Shen Sheng, 21, produced his best international result when finishing 52nd in the open Laser class at this year's world championships in Mexico.

The team is now left with four competitors, in the men's and women's Mistral sailboard class and one entry in the women's two-person 470 dinghy class.

The regatta, featuring 11 events and nine classes of boats, starts on Sunday.
