Sub-junior hockey starts tommorow

Lucknow, Jan 23 (UNI) The 18th All India K D Singh Babu Memorial Invitation Prize Money sub-junior hockey championship will start in the state capital tomorrow.

Addressing a press conference here, the secretary of the tournament Jaman Lal Sharma said the Rs 45,000 prize money championship will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis, in which 16 teams would participate at the Guru Gobind Singh sports college's stadium.

He said the participating teams -- UP (Red), Gujarat, Orrisa, Madhya Pradesh, Roop Nagar (Punjab), Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Nagaland, Chattisgarh, Hyderabad, West Bengal, UP (Blue), Cheema Academy (Batala, Punjab), Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Manipur would be divided into four pools and one team from each pool will qualify for the quarter finals.

The winners will be honoured with Rs 20,000 cash prize, while the amount for the runners up and third placed teams would be Rs 15,000 and 10,000 respectively.

The series would be concluded on February 2.
