Six-a-side Punjab Hockey League from Monday
Jalandhar, Jan 27 (UNI) Around 40 teams will participate in Punjab Girls and Women's Hockey League tournament at the Burlton Park Surjit Hockey Stadium here from January 29 to February 7.
Punjab Sports Director Olympian Pargat Singh told reporters here today that the league being organised with motto to improve standards of hockey at school, college level would be played on the basis of six-a-side hockey rules.
He said under the rules every team would comprise eight players but only six players, including goal keeper would play the match at a time. Each of the two halves of a match would be of 15 minutes (juniors) and 20 minute(seniors) coupled with five minutes mid-time break.
Mr Singh said the league tournament is being organised in two parts-junior girls section and senior women section. In the part one 16 teams in age group below 14 years would partcipate from various schools of the state and would play matches between January 29 and February 2.
The senior section matches would be played between February 2 and 7 in which about two dozen teams from various schools, colleges and departments would participate.
While preliminary matches would be played on league basis the same from quarter finals and onwards would be played on knock out basis, Mr Singh added.
