PHF desperate to host the Champions trophy in Lahore
Lahore, Aug 1 (UNI) The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is desperate to host the Champions Trophy here as scheduled, despite the withdrawl by the Australian team and refusal of Britain to replace the Olympic champions.
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) marketing manager, Steven Morris and Rupt Rummnay who looks after TV coverage of the federation, visited the Champions Trophy venue here yesterday and discussed organisational matters with the PHF.
During the visit, the FIH delegates discussed matters related to the marketing and TV coverage of the event with the Pakistani federation.
According to the 'Dawn', the two-member FIH delegate also held detailed meeting with the PHF secretary Khalid Mahmood.
However, the PHF spokesman did not disclose any details of the meeting, but added that issues related to security had not been discussed.
There were reports that Australia had advised some other participating nations to opt out of the six-nation tournament if it is held in Lahore.
To add to the confusion, the Indian Hockey Federation has also offered the FIH to hold the event in case the tournament is shifted from Pakistan because of security problems.
