India Women Hockey Draws Level Series With Australia After Tight Fourth Game In Perth

The Indian Women's Hockey Team ended their tour in Perth with a narrow 2-3 loss to Australia in the fourth match on Saturday. The four-game friendly series finished level at 2-2, giving India strong competitive preparation before the FIH Nations Cup in New Zealand.

India started fast in the final match. Navneet Kaur scored in the second minute from a penalty corner, giving the visitors an early 1-0 lead. India increased the pressure through tight defence and quick breaks, keeping Australia under strain in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Deepika Soreng struck in the 23rd minute. Her clean finish doubled India's advantage and rewarded their sharp attacking play. India then protected the circle well. The visitors went into half-time 2-0 ahead, controlling both tempo and territory

Australia answered after the break with a strong third quarter. Abby Wilson scored in the 42nd minute to reduce the gap. Two minutes later, Olivia Downes equalised at 2-2. The hosts gained momentum, testing the Indian backline with repeated circle entries.

The match stayed level until the closing minutes. India looked to hold firm and counter. However, Courtney Schonell scored in the 58th minute, giving Australia a 3-2 lead. The late goal sealed the result, despite India's solid effort across four quarters.

Across the series, India showed clear progress. They recovered from defeat in the opening match and won the next two games. The team displayed resilience, tactical discipline and attacking threat.
