Hockey players selection must be broad based: Rahul

Bhubaneswar, Mar 10 (UNI) AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today said the selection procedure for hockey players should be broadbased and widened.

Mr Gandhi made this remark when newspersons asked him on the dismal performance of India for failing to qualify for the Olympics following a 0-2 loss to Britain in the final of the Olympics qualifiers in Chile.

The AICC General Secretary said during his Orissa tour, he visited a Hockey Academy where the hockey players had complained of 'unfair selection procedure' being adopted in the team.

Mr Gandhi said like cricket, the pool of the selection in the Hockey should be widened so that the best of the players got chance to access to the team and play for the country.
