However, Uruguay's victory was marred by their star player Luis Suarez's biting the shoulder of an opponent player in the 79th minute of the match when the scores were level. Suarez, the hero of Uruguay's previous match against England, was clearly seen biting Girogio Chiellini's shoulder from the back and when the latter showed off the bite marks, the Uruguayan striker sat on the ground holding his teeth, trying to prove a point or two.
The Italian player later accused the match officials of not doing anything even after seeing the bite marks. However, Suarez could face disciplinary action, reports said.
Suarez is likely to bite again, said a sports psychologist in April last year
Suarez is infamous for biting opponents in emotional moments. In April last year, Suarez was suspended for 10 games for biting an opponent while playing for Liverpool. Before that in 2010, he was banned for seven games for biting while playing for Ajax in the Dutch league.
According to one report, in April, 2013, sports psychologist Dr Thomas Fawcett of the University of Salford predicted while speaking to the BBC that Suarez would likely bite again.
"It's in the man," Fawcett said, the report added. "I would think that in five years' time if there was a certain nerve hit or chord rung with Suarez in a different situation he would react in the same way."
