Under 19 national football tourney begins in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 5 (UNI) The 53rd national school football championship for under-19 began at the Bakshi Stadium here today with nine matches being played on day one.

The tournament, hosted by the Jammu and Kashmir government under the auspices of the National School Games Federation of India (NSGFI), was kicked off by Sports Minister Babu Singh.

About 600 players and team officials of 25 teams from different states of the country would take part in the league-cum-knockout championship.

The matches would be played at different venues, including Polo Ground, S P College and Bakshi Stadium.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the state will also host a three-day national junior wrestling championship here from September 21.

Regarding Santosh trophy, he said the championship would be played here from May 10 next year.
