Terry and Drogba miss out for Chelsea in Shield clash
LONDON, Aug 5 (Reuters) Chelsea captain John Terry and main striker Didier Drogba were ruled out today's Community Shield match against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.
Chelsea confirmed Drogba was injured, without giving any details, and said on their Web site (www.chelseafc.com) that defender Terry and midfielder Claude Makelele had pulled out of training yesterday.
British media reported that Terry had suffered knee ligament damage and could be sidelined for up to four weeks.
With strikers Andriy Shevchenko and Salomon Kalou also missing the traditional Premier League season curtain-raiser, FA Cup winners Chelsea fielded a highly unusual side, led down the middle by creative winger Joe Cole.
Cole was flanked in a 4-3-3 formation by Shaun Wright-Phillips and new signing Florent Malouda.
Champions United were led up front by England striker Wayne Rooney, supported by Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs.
