SBT beat Vasco Sports Club in Gold Cup soccer

Kannur, Apr 11 (UNI) State Bank of Travancore (SBT), Kerala defeated Vasco Sports Coub, Goa 2-2 in the league match of the Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup International Football tournament here today.

SBT swung into the attack right from the world go and scored their first goal in the fourth minute through Asif Saheer, who latched on to a measured pass from Abdul Hakim and drove the ball into the net. Stung by the reverse Goan players made foray into the rival citadel time and again, but Agnel D'Sooza's attempt in the 14th minute sailed over the bar.

Despite the setback, the Goan strikers Emmanual, M Fernandes, D'Souza and Keke Ibrahim attcked relentlessly, but they could not penetrate the well-drilled defence of Bankmen in the first half.

In the second half SBT surged ahead in 72nd minute, when Faizal Rahman drove the ball into the ball off a pass from Rinil. Vasco, however, reduced the margin in the 89th minute when striker Keke Ibrahim outwitted the bank defenders and placed the ball into the net.

Goan cusodian L Kattimani effected some smart saves and prevented the increase in tally of Bankmen.
