Messi, Ronaldo, Ribery to contest UEFA Best Player

Geneva, Aug 7: Star footballers Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery will compete to win the Best Player in Europe title.

European soccer governing body UEFA narrowed down the candidates to three from an initial 10-man list, selected by journalists from UEFA members.

The award will be presented on Aug 29 at the Champions League group-stage draw in Monaco following a live vote by the journalist's panel.

Messi won the inaugural award two seasons ago and his Barcelona team mate Andres Iniesta won last year.
